Fake charges on stem cell work

Fake charges on stem cell work

Submitted by frlarry on

The SciAm blog reflects on what's been happening in "Stem Cell Meltdown."

This is in sharp contrast to the "caution" of today's Dayton Daily News in an article, posted on the AP wire service by Malcolm Ritter, which the DDN entitled, "Suggestion of fraud clouds stem cell work." I searched on the Internet for this article. Evidently, someone pulled it from the L.A. Times web site, because Google pointed to a reference to Ritter and Hwang in a page on their site that was no longer there when I went to check it out.

Here's the Google entry:

AP: Science - Los Angeles Times
Some of stem cell researcher Hwang Woo-suk's high-profile human cloning work ...
By MALCOLM RITTER. From the smallest Chihuahua to the biggest Great Dane, ...
www.latimes.com/news/science/wire/ - Similar pages

It looks like everyone is scrambling to cover their tracks. My hat is off to the editors of Scientific American for quickly admitting their, admittedly huge, blunder.
