Are people aware of how much social conservatives have in common with social "progressives"? For instance:
- Both welcome people they know nothing about as long as they're in a setting where they're in a social gathering (such as a church meeting or a political rally or a wedding or a sock-hop) of people they see eye-to-eye with.
- Both tend to react with great disdain to ideas they disagree with, and readily communicate that disdain to those who hold these ideas. And, in some contexts, welcoming can turn to rejection.
- Both philosophies can exist with no contradiction in the mind of a radically intolerant personality, such as a Nazi, a Fascist or a Communist.
"Love your enemies" is a distinctly Christian principle. (This is fully integrated with what Jesus said about not condemning others [the real meaning of not judging others].) Speaking the truth in love is a distinctly Christian principle. (This is fully integrated with what Isaiah said about not breaking "a bruised reed" and what Jesus said [see Matthew 23:4] about lifting a finger to help those struggling with the burdens of living in conformity with God's law.)
Heaven is a place where both love and truth are united, not divorced from one another. Indeed, without uniting truth and love, the human soul easily loses both.
