I have been cautioned about taking any word that issues from Spectre's office with a grain of salt, yet a report from, "Specter: Alito's personal views won't drive rulings," makes it clear that Alito's position on Roe v. Wade is anything but clear. If it is true that the judge's personal views, expressed in private memos, have no bearing on his judical approach, then how do his personal views relate to his personal views on judical philosophy? I must count myself in a minority of people who have no confidence in Judge Alito's seriousness of purpose in reversing the damage done by Roe. On the contrary, it seems quite evident that his temperament is fundamentally non-confrontational, and he will generally go along to get along. To those who wish to plead his case I can only say that I have resigned myself to waiting for the actual hearings, and then for his actual decisions.
