When is a rose not a rose?

Gertrude Stein's famous line about roses was intended to heighten the reality of the sense of a rose in the imagination of her reader. These days, the modern psycho-sophist has other aims. Aiming to regain control of a debate that is lost when normal discourse and normal sanity prevails, the psycho-sophists invent specialized terms that mean something quite different than one might expect from the meanings of the words from which they are composed. Hearing such terms, one has the sense of unreality conveyed in a play by Ionescu.

Homosexuality and the Path to Hope

I have said in previous posts that it is possible some cases of homosexual attraction are caused by irreversible conditions, such as genetic endowment or irreversible trauma. According to a rather extensively documented review by the Catholic Medical Association, entitled CMA Homosexuality and Hope, there are no established (i.e., duplicatable and duplicated) studies implicating genetic origins.

Regarding the Virtus program

In view of my error, as admitted in the previous post, I find it ironic that the violation of the innocence principle seems to be endemic to schools these days, even Catholic schools. A report on the so-called Virtus program, now being adopted in Catholic Schools, can be found at Catholic Parents OnLine. A further reflection, given in a homily by Fr. Robert Altier, shows the moral outrage of a good priest.

I stand corrected!

On December 8th, 1995, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Pontifical Council for the Family issued an instruction, entitled, The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality, Guidelines for Education within the Family. In that instruction, the Council, under the signature of Bishop Elio Sgreccia, Council Secretary, declared in paragraph 83,
